Ballantine Solar Farm

Overview

About the site:

  • It is approximately 99 hectares across three parcels of land.
  • It is currently used for agricultural activities such as cropping and sheep grazing.
  • It is located approximately 230km east of Melbourne and 6km southwest of Bairnsdale’s town centre.

The project will include:

  • Ground mounted solar panels (around 120,000 panels) producing around 85 megawatts of clean, renewable energy to the electricity grid.
  • Tracking system which enables the solar panels to rotate and follow the sun, optimising electricity generation from the solar resource.
  • A battery energy storage system with around 70 megawatts of capacity and four-hour duration, to store energy when demand is low and dispatch energy when demand is high.
